Dental Mechanic Course (DMC) is a diploma course related to Dentistry. Basically, it is the course to train the candidate (student) in the field of dental technology. Dentistry and particularly Prosthodontics (a major branch of Dentistry) is largely dependent upon laboratory assistance. It is mandatory that for the success of any prosthetic dental treatment , the work received from the dental laboratory is precise.
Dental Mechanics are professionals who work behind the scenes supporting the dental doctors to give the patients perfect dental prosthesis such as dentures, crowns, bridges, eye prosthesis, ear prosthesis, nose prosthesis and other dental appliances.
During the two year course, the students acquire laboratory skills through hands on experience. They acquire knowledge and skills needed to fabricate dental restorations including metal, ceramic crowns and bridges, complete dentures ceramic crowns and bridges as well as computer aided milling for fabrications of Dental prostheses as well as use of intraoral scanners for fabrication of prosthesis .

Eligibility Criteria: 

(1) Candidate should be at least 17 years of age at the time of admission or within 3 months of it and should be medically fit to pursue the course.
(2) The candidate must have pursued 10+2 or two years intermediate equivalent course thereof with science subjects i.e., Physics, Chemistry and Biology from a recognized Indian University or Pre-University/Intermediate Board.

Career Prospectives: 

 

1. The Dental Schools and Hospitals (Government as well as Private) have the requirement to appoint the Dental Mechanics as per the Dental Council of India regulations.
2. These professionals can get the attachment to the dental laboratories.
3. A Dental Mechanic can even start his own dental laboratory to cater to the needs of dental clinics in that area.
4. They can be employed by the Dentists in their clinic.
